Peace Day Laguna Woods
where we will continue to Shape Peace Together
What is now known as Concerned Citizens of Laguna Woods Village began in 1981 as Concerned Citizens for Peace. Over time, its purpose broadened, and it grew to encompass more than just an antiwar focus.
This club undertook an impressive effort in the spring of 1992! A Peace Pole was erected and surrounded by a newly planted grove of six Golden Rain trees, also donated by Concerned Citizens. The trees remain, but the Peace Pole disappeared. Stroll along Aliso Creek. Reachable at CDS 60, Avenida Majorca.
We have re-gifted the Laguna Woods Village community with a new Peace Pole. It was dedicated on Peace Day, September 21, 2020. Continuing with the UN's chosen theme for this year, Shaping Peace Together, we will honor this legacy of peacemaking as we move forward.
WHAT IS A PEACE POLE?
A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silence for peace on earth. Each Peace Pole bears the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in different languages on each of its four or six sides. There are estimated to be over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world dedicated as monuments to peace.
